Art of Santa Cruz, a sister store to Scotts Valley Artisans, officially opened the first week in May and is already proving to be quite successful. Art of Santa Cruz is ideally located between the food court and Target and features over 100 local artists from Santa Cruz County. Art of Santa Cruz is part of the vision of Regional Artists Associaiton, to make Santa Cruz County a destination for art tourism and " "Branding" Santa Cruz County as an internationally recognized art destination.". Santa Cruz County has the fifth largest population of artists per capita in the United States, according to a survey published in Atlantic Magazine in November, 2011 (numbers 1-4 on this list are Santa Fe, NM, San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles).
January 16th, 2014 Denise was interviewed by reporter Donna Jones about the connection between her photography and her docent work with the Watsonville Wetlands Watch. Click here for the full story.
It's been a very exciting Summer and Fall for Ooh! Look! Photography. September gave both Efren and I 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place collectively in the wildlife category, professional class, at the Santa Cruz County Fair. Great Blue Heron over Kelp came in first place at the Monterey Birding Festival and will be on the cover of their 2015 calendar and on next year’s pins and t-shirts. For October, Efren came in 3rd place in Friends of the Sea Otter photo contest with ‘Sea Otter Charge’. This month we received news that two images will be in the Elkhorn Slough Foundation's 2014 calendar. Last but not least, Efren is listed and published in American Art Collector catalog with his American Bittern image. We are grateful for all this luck that has come our way and thank everyone for their continued support.
Efren was one of 229 photographers out of 461 whose image made it into the final exhibition. There were over 3,600 individual photos from 46 different countries. 14 photographers from the United States entered and only 5 were accepted. His image of Great Blue Heron Top is now published in a 4-star printed catalog by The International Federation of Photographic Art along side the images of other finalists and winners. photosalonvarna.org Go to page 64 to see his entry. Today we finalized plans to exhibit in
The True Olive Connection for the month of November. We will be there for First Friday. Look for updates on the possibility of one more exhibit this year downtown. We will also be in The Bagelry in February 2013. Denise has been working tirelessly on our Open Studio postcards for this year's 2013 Santa Cruz tour. She could be heard quietly cheering herself on at her desk with a quiet, "Yay!" for each new skill she accomplished in Photoshop. The cards will be ready today and will be handed out at upcoming art and wine festivals in Scott's Valley and Capitola. If you would like to receive an invitational post card and are not on our mailing list, contact us.
Ooh! Look! Photography is very excited to announce that The Monterey Bay Aquarium has chosen four of Efren's otter pictures to use in their newly remodeled Sea Otter Exhibit. Three are used in educational bezel graphics beside the viewing windows, while another is displayed on a rotating video monitor as well as in an educational slide show in their auditorium. A very special thank you to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and all they do to help the Endangered Sea Otters through out the central coast.
